CORE(R) Enterprise 5.1.5 README.TXT file Please read this document before installing CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Server. This file includes information not covered in the documentation. Topics addressed include: * Installing CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Server * Migrating Users & Groups from CORE Enterprise 4.0 * Migrating Projects from CORE Enterprise 4.0 * Porting a 4.0 Project to a 5.0 Schema * Sharing Data between CORE Enterprise 4.0 & 5.1.5 * Uninstalling CORE Enterprise 4.0 Server * Uninstalling CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Server * Reporting Problems/Making Product Suggestions If you have questions after reviewing this document, or if you encounter any problems while installing or using CORE, please contact Vitech Customer Support as instructed at the end of this document. Installing and Licensing CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Server ===================================================== For detailed installation and licensing instructions, please refer to the "CORE 5.1.5 Installation Guide". This document is located in the 'Docs' directory on the CORE 5.1.5 CD and can also be obtained from the Downloads section of our website at http://www.vitechcorp.com. If you have already installed CORE Enterprise 5.0 or CORE Enterprise 5.1, the Enterprise 5.1.5 installer will upgrade your existing configuration. Please carefully review the "Upgrading from CORE 5.0 or CORE 5.1" section of the installation guide before installing CORE 5.1.5 to ensure a smooth upgrade. CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Server can be installed on the same host computer as and run concurrently with CORE Enterprise 4.0 Server. If you did not accept all default values when prompted during the CORE Enterprise 4.0 Server installation or if you wish to deviate from the default values supplied by the CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Server installation, you should consult Vitech Corporation technical support to determine whether a conflict may result in the incorrect operation of one or both servers. It is recommended that CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Server be installed on a separate machine from CORE Enterprise 4.0 Server. However, we recognize that a second server-grade computer may not be available to many users or that they may not want to undertake the reinstallation of one or the other of the servers during the transition process. Be aware, however, that running both servers simultaneously on the same host may impair performance. Before attempting to do so, please ensure the machine has sufficient memory and disk space. If RAM is limited, the amount allocated to each server may have to be reduced for optimal performance. Contact Vitech Corporation for assistance. CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Client can also be installed on the same computer as and run concurrently with CORE Enterprise 4.0 Client. (The client software can also be installed and run on the server.) The CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Client cannot log into the CORE Enterprise 4.0 Server, nor can the CORE Enterprise 4.0 Client log into the CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Server. Porting a 4.0 Project to a 5.0 Schema ===================================== It is recommended that you *NOT* change the schema of a project in its advanced stages. The migration process will combine some elements and divide others, refactoring data among elements and attributes and creating and deleting some relationships. For a large project, this may require considerable manual intervention and a lengthy user retraining period. For information on migrating data from a previous version of CORE, please contact Customer Support to obtain the latest "CORE 5.0 Data Migration Guide". Sharing Data between CORE Enterprise 4.0 & 5.1.5 ================================================ It is recommended that work on a single project be conducted either entirely in CORE 4.0 or entirely in CORE 5.1.5. However, there are many cases in which project responsibilities are distributed among multiple organizations with different licenses, and project work may need to continue during the transition from CORE 4.0 to CORE 5.1.5. To collaborate on a project using both versions, you need to be aware of the following restrictions: o When porting the project to CORE 5.1.5, continue using the CORE 4.0 schema. o CORE 4.0 cannot import .XML files from CORE 5.1.5. To export database information from CORE 5.1.5 for use in CORE 4.0, use the .RDT format. To export schema information from CORE 5.1.5 for use in CORE 4.0, use the .SCH format. o It is not possible to import users and groups created in CORE 5.1.5 into CORE 4.0. Even if a CORE 4.0 user is created with the same name and password, access control list entries referencing the user in CORE 4.0 will be lost when imported into CORE 5.1.5. Therefore, if work on a project must be divided between CORE 4.0 and CORE 5.1.5, all relevant users and groups must originate in CORE 4.0 and be imported into 5.1.5. o Custom hierarchy diagram, sort block, and filter definitions created in CORE 5.1.5 cannot be imported into CORE 4.0. However, those created in CORE 4.0 can be imported into CORE 5.1.5 via an .STG file (generated via the Export Settings command). Uninstalling CORE Enterprise 4.0 Server ======================================= Archive a hot backup of the final state of your CORE Enterprise 4.0 repository, should you wish to reinstall it for any reason. The complete backup and uninstall processes are documented in the CORE Enterprise 4.0 User Reference Guide. Please see this document for uninstall guidelines. Uninstalling CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Server ========================================= Archive a hot backup of the final state of your CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 repository, should you wish to reinstall it for any reason. To remove CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Server from your system, select Add/Remove Programs from the Windows control panel. Select CORE Enterprise 5.1.5 Server from the list of applications available to uninstall and click the Remove button. Follow any instructions provided by the installer to remove the application.
