Vitech's University Program
Vitech's unique university program offers professors and students a chance to use CORE software in systems engineering training courses.
As a proponent of lifelong learning and education, Vitech Corporation offers a unique University Program to introduce faculty and students to model-based systems engineering through its COREŽ software offering - in classroom and research settings. Vitech developed and commercialized CORE, a model-based, integrated systems engineering software tool that connects people, processes, data and documentation. Today there are over forty universities and thousands of students using the product worldwide as part of systems engineering training curriculums.
History
The University Program officially began in 1999 when the then George Mason professor Dennis M. Buede wanted a hands-on research experiment to support his systems engineering textbook, The Engineering Design of Systems: Models and Methods (Wiley Series in Systems Engineering and Management). At that time, CORE software was introduced to both undergraduate and graduate students where it continues to be taught by several professors today. Over the years, the program has expanded to become what it is today.
Coincidentally, CORE began as a college classroom project for Vitech Corporation's founder and president, David Long while he was attending Virginia Tech. The earliest version was designed at a professor's request as a tool for system engineers to use in the systems engineering training lab. The tool evolved as did its designer, who began to see its vast potential. In 1992, Long established Vitech Corporation, and in February 1993 he made his first commercial sale of CORE to the National Security Agency (NSA) where systems engineers used CORE software for security profiling.
CORE
CORE is the premier tool supporting model-based systems engineering and product design, including requirements analysis, behavioral analysis, architecture definition, and verification and validation. Students gain hands-on experience applying systems engineering concepts and theories to a sophisticated, integrated software application that simulates models, evaluates risks and generates reports.
University Program Mission
Vitech Corporation's University Program supports educational institutions which benefit from using CORE as a vehicle to promote model-based systems engineering. University professors, as well as undergraduate and graduate students utilize CORE's capabilities in such fields as systems engineering, engineering management, program management, and operations research.
University Program Benefits to Professors and Students
- Offers the latest requirements engineering, architecture definition and systems analysis tools in systems engineering
- Provides a unique platform for understanding and implementing a structured, model-based systems engineering approach
- Enables students to enter or re-enter the workforce with the knowledge and experience of CORE
- Provides a variety of robust tools and engineering expertise to students performing research in support of undergraduate and graduate degrees
University Program Support
Vitech Corporation's website includes access to a variety of presentations, sample files and technical papers in the support section. Additionally, you can contact our customer support team.
CORE in the Classroom
Designed for educators teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in a classroom, CORE in the Classroom, a modified version of CORE, is provided free of charge for the instructor, teaching assistant(s) and all students to use throughout the semester or course. The software license is typically available for the duration of the course.
CORE for Research
A more substantial version of the software, CORE for Research is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who wish to use CORE and COREsim (optional) for their thesis or doctoral dissertation. Upon program acceptance, students will receive the latest versions of CORE and COREsim, without any restrictions on project size. The license will be available to the professor and student (s) throughout the project's lifecycle.
